PB for Alistair at Bedford Harriers Half - 1:36 - PB by 11 minutes!

Recent Race results
28th Dec - Buntingford Year End 10
A few of us braved the cold weather and made a trip up to Buntingford for the Year End 10 (miles) on Monday 28th. A bit of confusion on the start line and a tougher course than I remember but a good outing overall. David Green takes the course record down to 1:02:56!
DECEMBER 22nd 5K handicap has been CANCELLED due to the bad weather - too slippy!!

Luton Marathon and 3 stage relay
Aro members took part in both the full marathon and 3 stage relay on Sunday. In very windy conditions (but thankfully dry!) David Green finished in 3hr 11 and Graham got a PB at under 3hr 57. In the relay teams the Aros Ladies finished in just 4 hrs and Lorna Clifton-Dey completed the final leg for her team in an impressive 1 hr 12 bringing her team home in under 3hr 45.

Yet another first for Hannah!
At the Karen Trust 5k at Luton Hannah WON the Ladies race and came in 2nd overall! Ian Wright and Esther Rantzen were there to start. Hannah says it was a fun race and meeting Ian Wright was great! |

Congratulations to Hannah Turner who was the the FIRST LADY home in a cracking 44:22! Also a PB for Craig with 46:46, and improvement of about 4 minute on his previous best.

St Neots Half
Great day out with a Jillian and Michael completing their first half and several PBs too - see full results on the past races page. Fantastic course and so lucky with the weather. Smiles all round!
Watford Autumn Challenge
Another great cross country race this year organised by Watford Joggers. Some good times by all the runners but a new Aros course record for Simon Speirs who also WON the MV40 category. Congratulations!

5k Handicap - Winter series.
The Summer series was a great sucess but clearly from the August race its not going to be possible to use that route from September onwards. Those of us at the back barely made it in the light - and then we need to get safely back to Southdown too. We are just putting the finishing touches to the new route for the winter series which we want to be as safe as possible in the darker months. Check out the Future Races page for details!
Entries for the Herts 10k in October are now open and apparently its filling up fast so register now!

July 26th - Milton Keynes Half (NSPCC)
Ideal conditions for this - dry but not too hot. Single lap round cycle paths, pavements and canal tow paths. About 6 of us turned up to run - members and friends. Flat but a bit twisty and lots of little rises and falls at junctions etc. Not a trivial race at all and at least 2 PBs. Very well organised and shiny new medal.
June 26th - Luton Summer Series 5m
Michael Hessey and I (Graham Harper) ran this testing little 5 miler on a sticky Friday night. Two circuits of an 'out and back' course with 'undulations'. Mainly run on tarmac I found it a bit hard on my feet and was glad to have finished! New PB for me though. Good atmosphere and lots of encouragement from the Marshals.
June 19th - Marston Forest 5K
Good turnout for this Friday evening race. 5k is so much further than you think when you are racing. I think we all enjoyed it though and there were some great times and some PBs too. We also enjoyed the post race burger and pint!
June 14th - St Albans Half
As usual this one turned out to be hot and hilly. Not quite as hot as last year maybe but still a tough course to run. Some great results from club members at all levels. Lots of encouragement from the marshalls, plenty of water stations and much better organisation at the end. Finish times in 'past races'
June 7th - Whipsnade 10k.
Another wet Sunday.. must be time for another 10k! About a dozen of us went anyway and the rain stopped just in time. First Aro home was 6th overall and lots of PBs.. great race. No hills, great scenery, well organised, nice medal. Read the full report in 'past races'. Congratulations to all the finishers.
Congratualtions to all the runners at the Wheathampstead 10k on the 17th. It was wet and windy but I think almost 20 people turned up to run and loved it!
John lead the Aros pack home and finished an impressive 5th overall, closely followed by Simon and Darren.
Alan Smith finished way under 46 minutes and must get the MV50 record. Vanessa smashed her last years time to be our first lady home in an 'official' time of 53:59 plus lots more great achievements.
Shame about the rain!
Congratulations to Sarah Dumbrill on completing the 15m Daffodil run in 2h 20 and to her brother Johnathan who did his first ever 10 at the event in 57 minutes.
On the Bank Holiday Monday 4th May Dean, Graham and Helen ran the Watford 10k 'Bluebell Run'. Fantastic race, although the organisation was a bit off this year. PB for GH!
We all had a great evening for the first ever running of the Harpenden Aro Runners 5k Handicap on the 30th April. 15 runners completed the run and lots more met at the 'Engineer' afterwards. What a great night. Results were a real suprise.. especially to the winner!
No less than 8 Aros completed the FLM on the 26th April with David Green the first home with an excellent 3hr 11 minutes. You can read the full report from Jeremy Smith and get all the times on the 'Past Races' Page. Well done everyone.
Ronjon was the first Aro home at the Flitwick 10k on the 19th April in 46:12 followed by Alistair in 46:21 and Colin in 47:46. These 3 (out of the 7 Aro finishers) achieved a team placing of 35th. Annette was the first Lady Aro home at 54:11.
Well done to all who ran. Darren McGrath retains the Aros course record at 38:31 (2008)
Graham completed his first marathon at the Bungay Black Dog in 3hr 58:27
